We made chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and iced them with
Meringue frosting. It was my first time using this type of icing and it
was not only delicious but it creates a glossing topping for the
cupcakes. Instead of icing the cupcakes we just dipped them in the icing
with was much faster and gave a smoother finish. Then added sprinkles and
a bubble gum ball to finish them off.
2/3 cup butter
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups milk
Add sugar, mix until light.
Add eggs and vanilla beat until fluffy.
Mix dry ingredients together.
Combine both the dry and butter mixtures until blended.
Pour into cupcake holders.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes or until golden. To check to see if they are done on the inside poke a toothpick in the center and if it comes out clean they are done.
WHIPPED MERINGUE FROSTING
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup egg whites (3 large eggs)
pinch of salt
1/3 cup water
1/4 teas vanilla
In a double boiler or a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of water, combine egg whites, sugar, salt and water.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar has dissolved, 2-3 minutes.
Transfer to a large bowl.
Using an electric mixer, beat on medium-high until glossy, stiff peaks form, about 3 minutes. Do not over beat.
Reduce speed to low and add vanilla, mix till blended. Use right away.
Frost the cupcakes by dipping the cooled cupcake into the frosting. Turn the cupcake in the frosting and pull up, this will form a nice peak in the cupcakes center.
Yesterday was the big day for Abdellah's pool and craft Birthday party. The plan was to keep it simple, knowing what kids like the most is just playing with each other, swimming was the main event. The kids also did some dinosaur cookie decorating as well as some face and tempera painting.
We made the kids favors out of crepe paper. The treats were rolled up in the crepe paper into tubes and then both ends were tied with twine & a little frog.
We made the silver trays a little more kid festive by decorating them with crepe paper that we cut, fringed and then attached to the top and sides of the tray.
I just took a look at Redenvelope, they have an amazing selection of personalized gift items.
Redenvelope is one of my favorite online companies, and they are offering a special just for you.
I made a flower for Detou's hair in the same fashion as the larger flowers from the previous post. The only difference is that the middle section is secured with a ribbon rather than a twist tie and then the layers are seperated. After that the ribbon can be used to tie onto the hair.
For our recent baby party I used tissue paper flowers for the decorations. They are wonderful because the materials are inexpensive, their easy to make and by attaching a ribbon you can cover a large spaces.
For the floral garland I tied two flowers back to back onto the ribbon.
Butterflies were attached to the ribbon between the flowers.
Cut tissue to the desired size, using 7 pieces of tissue per flower. The tissue for the flowers in the photos are 8" x 10"
Layer the 7 pieces of tissue on top of each other and the fold back and forth like an accordion all the way to the end.
Fold the tissue in half to find the center point and lightly crease. At the crease point use a twist tie to bind the tissue together.
We had a lovely party for the baby last night. It was a warm evening and the party was held on the back patio under the stars and a Mauritanian tent. Carpets and cushions were laid for seating and rounds of Mauritanian sweet mint tea was served. With the heat here parties start late, ours started about 9:00 PM and went till the wee hours of the morning.
These bon bon favors were created by cutting crepe paper into squares, adding green mango jelly beans and then rolling into a tube shape and tying them at the ends. They were finished by attaching wraps with the decorative paper. The favors were then stacked around paper flowers on large silver Moroccan trays.
The pretty paper used for the favor wraps is from Paper Source .
Detou created a pretty little heart garland for her room. She cut the hearts in various sizes, hole punched the sides and threaded them on to a ribbon. Since the patterns on the paper are different on both sides she can hang it either way.
