Felt is a perfect material for hand sewing with children. We use it for a lot of our projects as well as for applique on other types of fabrics. I had a favorite felt source but when I ordered and they were out of stock it gave me a reason to try another company. A friend referred me to Felt.o.rama, so I checked it out their site and signed up for their newsletter.
They have a large selection of felt which includes, Recycled Eco-Felt,

I always use wool felt but I could not resist the Recycled Eco-Felt. It
comes in vibrant clear colors (see above) and I was very happy with it as an
alternative to wool.
The first in our summer series of classes, "Textile & Sewing Camp" is coming up in just a few weeks on July 5th. The camp is for ages 8 and up.
This class will cover the basics of hand and machine sewing to create our projects. The projects will then all be taken a step further through the process of embellishing. Embellishing will include; applique, embroidery, fabric dying and bead work.
