el Seed: Inspired Street Painting

       In the Bay

I met Faouzi Khlifi (el Seed) last year in Toronto at one of our CSP events, he was a speaker and was also creating a large mural at the festival. I appreciated his approachability and that his work was people centered. His work comes from a giving heart and becomes a gift for both those that watch the creating of it and for those that are fortunate to have the finished project in their environments.

Sewing: Applique Trees

 

 

The trees were inspired by children's drawings of trees. 

Double sided fusable interfacing was ironed on the fabric before it was cut. The shapes were then cut out of the fabric and then ironed in place on the pillow top then stitched.

Paper: Dotty Paper Garlands

I love paper garlands, they are a great way to make a space festive. These dotty flags were made with Paper Source http://www.paper-source.com/ paper.

The paper is double sided so it looks great from both sides. The paper was folded over about 1 1/2" and then glued down over string. Instead of putting the folded edge in the back I put it in front so a visable contrasting band can be seen. 

Wheat Centerpiece

The simplicity of the materials for the centerpiece are transformed by scale. By using a very large vase the beauty of the entire length of the wheat stalks are visible. 

Materials:

• Large Vase
• Smaller vase
• Candle
• Sand
• Wheat

Directions:

• Add sand to the bottom of the vase. The amount will depepend upon the container, you'll want enough to support your stalks.
• Line the stalks around the inner edge of the vase, trim the length to fit the containers height.
• Place the candle in the smaller vase and push the vase into the center of the larger vase, twist it down to secure.

Calligraphy Workshop's

We had some wonderful sessions at the studio with Haji Noor Deen during his receint trip to the Bay.

Haji will be back next Spring, and we'll be having more workshops throughout the Bay.
