This year's graduation was held in the wonderful International House on the UC Berkeley Campus. The International House has an interesting history which I think fits very nicely with Zaytuna's ongoing efforts to establish dialog and mutual understanding on a global level.

The graduation was very moving & inspirational. From the students it was clear, the time spent with their teachers both learning and sharing was life altering and the talks from the teachers reflected a similar view.

Creativity and the Spiritual Path Poster

We developed this poster for our Creativity & The Spiritual Path event which we hosted last weekend in the Bay.

I love this quote & believe in it.

From my experience when a person finds the work that that they feel they were made to do the passion for it gives them a deep well to draw from.

Our event was an inspiration to us and from the feedback we received from the attendees, for them as well. Our next event will be in Sydney this fall.

Creativity and the Spiritual Path

Zaytuna's Minara & Fundraiser

Gorgeous Chicago

This past weekend Zaytuna hosted a Minara titled;  Agenda to Change our Families at Northwestern University as well as an award ceremony and fund raiser at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.

I had absolutely no idea that Chicago was such a pretty city, the city feels like a blend of Portland, Oregon and London. Place can really set the tone for events and the museum was a very special setting for Zaytuna's evening event. 

With the decor I was hoping to create a simple but elegant look. Earthy colors were chosen for the table linens in a lamor fabric. On the stage backdrop a fresh green garland of Ruscus and Salal leaves were draped. The stage flowers were all orchids and the dining table centerpieces were simple shaped modern white vases and with leaves instead of flowers; Monstera and Lily Grass. We were able to also benefit from the  museum's current glass exhibit which includes nine glass chandeliers which were conveniently hanging above the stage.

Walk with the Scholars

5K Walk-a-thon, Family Fair & Silent Auction

Ilm Tree is holding a family fun day, fund raising event for the school. Confirmed scholars are I. Zaid Shakir, S. Alaeddin El-Bakri, Q. Amar Bellaha, P. Hatem Bazian, U. Abdullah Ali, and U. Abdul Kareen Yahyaa. The event will be held on June 8th at Deer Hill Ranch in Lafayette, California,  which next year will be the new home of the school. It's a lovely setting with farm animals and rolling hills.



I'm working on my donations, a couple of pillows for the silent auction. The silk is green and sand colored with one of my favorite Rumi poems.

The community events yesterday were both very lovely. The event speakers included
I Zaid Shakir, S Hamza Yusuf, I Tahir, Ustadh Abdullah Ali.  In the last talk of the evening the finial sentiment that S. Hamza shared was the call to "Bring beauty to the world."

Illume's Media Banquet & Fundraiser

A Year of Illume Last night was Illume's celebration of it's first year in publication. The event included speakers, dinner and a fund raiser and was a very inspirational event.   Illume Media is an independent media organization that aims to connect to the peoples of the Bay Area and to the global electronic community in an effort to share a balanced perspective of Muslims and Islam through web and print media. Illume Magazine was the dream of my friend Javid Ali who has been a good friend to Barakah Life so it was a pleasure for me to work on this event. Friends House London

Friends House is a Quaker Meeting House in central London and was the venue for the GCRG public launch event. The large meeting hall is an open space with very high ceilings and has a minimal look. With the flowers I decided to create arrangements that were simple and natural, just adding a bit of color to the space.
