The Story of Islamic Embroidery

Sewing: Applique Trees

 

 

The trees were inspired by children's drawings of trees. 

Double sided fusable interfacing was ironed on the fabric before it was cut. The shapes were then cut out of the fabric and then ironed in place on the pillow top then stitched. 

 

   
 
 

 

Needle Felted Doll Making for Kids

We have another great class coming up this weekend with Maya Blow. She'll be teaching the same class that she recently taught adults but for kids this time.

BL Studio: Needle Felting

In this Felting class we will be using all natural wool felt to create treasured felted dolls for the nature table or for your child to play with. The techniques used will be needle felting, hand sewing, as well as some embroidery and decorative beadwork. Color palettes and materials will be inspired by the seasons and natural materials found outdoors.

 

Maya Blow is an herbalist and classical homeopath practicing in the East SF Bay Area. Besides her passion for holistic and alternative medicine she is also an artist, homeschooling mother of two, urban homesteader, and avid crafter. Maya has been studying, practicing, and teaching art for two decades and continues to draw her inspiration from her love of nature. Her specialties are working with oil and acrylic paint though she frequently works with wood, yarn, textiles, and found materials. Maya lives on an urban farm with her husband, sons, goats, chickens, and bees.

Barakah Life Sewing Classes

 

The first in our summer series of classes,  "Textile & Sewing Camp" is coming up in just a few weeks on July 5th. The camp is for ages 8 and up.

This class will cover the basics of hand and machine sewing to create our projects. The projects will then all be taken a step further through the process of embellishing. Embellishing will include; applique, embroidery, fabric dying and bead work.

 
 

DIY Clothing Studio

Sewing . Embellishing . Creating 

 
JULY 10th & 11th 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Spread your creative wings and soar into the world of DIY fashion. Basic sewing patterns, bins of beads, buttons, ribbons and threads, as well as an amazing array of fabric, await your creative vision. We will explore machine and hand sewing, hand applique, embroidery, beading, and surface design to set you on your way towards a fabulous design experience. Projects include embellished bags and skirts. We will also have a presentation and discussion on upstyling store-bought clothing to create a look that is personal and artistic.
